Can any one pleasse tell me how affiliates work ? How webhosting companies which sell hosting in few dollars pay so much hug price on affiliates ? What is the catch involved ?

They don't, they are mainly interested in traffic from you. Is not profitable these days. Can get hosting for free and sell your own product.

Some companies will be willing to give you a bigger amount of commission because they are basing it on for instance the value of that customer over a number of years.
